There would seem to be fewer and fewer players.
We need to discover a way to introduce it to a large number of people in a short period for free.
Hmm, tricky.
I'll have a think.
Perhaps, for those of us who have a university/college/school/office, there are notice boards?
Maybe URL's could be placed there....

Here is what the problem is:

You get interested in the game, you login, no-one is around to play with, you try the solo mode, but you get bored after 15 minutes of playing. Not much there, and for newcomers, the first impression is always the one that counts the most.

Of course no one stays, would you?

What should be added to the game, if there is any kind of interest in making people stay and have the community grow, is: Establish some sort of AI and let solo mode be any more like multiplayer mode. And make it scored of course. If you present it correctly, that will impact gamers.

And a side note, it's about time some new items/weapons get implemented!!  The forums are swamped with many great ideas from years ago, honestly, it's no wonder this game doesn't launch into popularity cyberspace.

No offense intended, but I don't know why you keep turning the pages and breaking your head trying to figure out why this game is a No-show for new gamers.

All the best,

Dragoo.

I disagree with you, Dragoo.

About:

You get interested in the game, you login, no-one is around to play with

Pilou had a great idea proposing the "Guard" player. I think if only 5 or 6 of us were here most of day, other players will enter to play some games and when new players enter could play with all of us and remain here. I'm here for a lot of years and this is what happened.

With last updates the game is good and pretty enough to attract a lot of new players, but if we don't support the game, new players will don't come.

RS is a multiplayer game first and secondly a single player puzzle game.
As all the not massive online mutiplayers games, its strength is its weakness too: if not enough player in the gameroom, you can't play multiplayer game mode, and the single mode isn't addictive enough for new players.

Of course, I won't ever develop AI, because I don't have a 10 developpers team, I'm quite alone for improving RS (and I also have a regular job ;) )
But, nevertheless, RS has been seriously improved during the last 2 years :
- a new site (CMS) more SEO friendly and easier for social networking
- a new cloud server for better stablility
- a new design more eye catching (site+flash+maps)
- a new user interface more user friendly since june 2011, and still on progress
- a new tutorial for beginners (online since yesterday evening)

There are many other improvements to come, but what we need today is more players in the gameroom to restart RS audience and then motivate new players in joining the community.
In order to do this, there are 3 tasks to organize at the same time :
- man the gameroom, as Gladiator and Pilou say: ex 2 or 3 experimented players on guard watch and play for 1 hour, then another team following
get external links to RS from game directories, to have better results in search engines, and more people discovering RS. What we need is a "linking campaign". I'm about to start it with amloo (and other contributors to find) for french links, then english. I also intend to give additionnal points to players who spread RS around by adding tagged banners (I'll do and explain this asap)
- give more attractivity to the game even when no or a few players connected. I thought we could give points for solving solo maps, display a new map viewer where you can try / train on the maps, show the last 10 played games for replaying them ... still to brainstorm.

Ok, comments noted, yet while there is a huge difference between having no one around to play with, and having a pro player beat you over and over on races, blitz and difficult maps is no idea for fun either. I have yet to see an experienced player play with a new robot and not abuse him.

The option given by Chris in somehow implementing a scored single player is more in the road of what I was saying, it makes perfect sense, otherwise, new players can't find any reward in playing a brain puzzling solo map over and over without getting anywhere, and if they somehow could play something alone but this gave them points for adding to their personal rating, then that would be a start.

Definitely the thing is RS needs more players, but my point is precisely, Ok, suppose your advertising campains work, you have made the first step, which is bring them in, now you must make them stay.

BTW Gladiator, if your aim is having experienced players function as "tutors" and show the new guys around, I am entirely with you, but I still have the screenshot of you insulting a robot.  Forgive my skepticism, but we need ideas that work.

Cheers.

Sorry Dragoo i disagree totally with you.

Everytime i see a NEW player i try to show him/her how to play, nothing to lose if i lose. I do it usually cause i think i'm a player who is a lot of time on-line trying to RS grow.

Other players players don't come never here, and when come log as robots, anger the people and take captured screen of it.

After it go to forums and continue angering them.

Please Dragoo, FORGET ME, i'm only trying to help RS. I'm near everyday here and only see you a few times, and don't see any ideas and colaborations about you.

If you have any personal against me, don't use the forums for it. It only do that forums go dirty. If you need to say anything to me, insulte me or whatever, you can e-mail me to gladiator.robostrike@gmail.com

Cheers

PD: Usually when i play with new players or real new robots i play boards like Philips, Close comb, Try me, Coreur or similar

No use to argue here, but the main concern is the right one : how to "fix" new players on RS.
Giving points for solo maps can be part of the answer
But multiplayer games : newbie versus experimented player is still a real problem. Of course the newbie will lose at 99% and have a bad experience if we don't do anything.
I'm very interessed in doing something with some "tutor" or "coach" status, but I don't know how it could work. Maybe we could ask to the newbie if this coaching was good / usefull and it would give additional points or grants to the tutor ? or a "coached" counter ? The goal is to motivate experimented players to teach newbies.
Thanks for your inputs about this subject.

BTW: the advertizing campain is on stand by, but I will do it by myself starting by french links in the next few days.

I think experienced players don't be motivated for game points, the points are welcome when it's hard to win them. I try to motivate all new player to be here and the thing that motivate me is that when i come here i find players to play with.

Could be a good idea activate a coacher mode and don't affect standard points for coacher and give coach points instead of standard. At same time the rookie could take some standard points for taking lessons.

Some ideas :

The coach mode can be a player who change is statut. When he become coach (and not a normal player), his score is hidden and he has a coach name or specific colors. Can be anonymous : all coach are named by "coach". Or anything else.

Into the games, the new player who are "linked" to the coach can have a suggestion from the coach. Maybe a button "help from the coach" and a specific moove is given to the new players. I think it can be really interesting to show to the new players dangerous way to escape for example. The goal is not to dictate all mooves. But just give esay suggestions of moove. Maybe, to limite all this, the "help from the coach" button's can be activated only 1/2 turns.
