Make RS easier for new players

I think we don't need to change anything of the multiplayer game, but improve the getting started.

For me, the section getting started is not good. It only has 2 missions and in the first mission the player already interacts with pushers, gears, sliders, lasers and even with other robots! Although a player moves the robot movement by movement, I think it is too complex. We need to re-think the tutorial and make it easier for new players. This is the key for the first steps and where they have to understand well the game.

I agree the idea of removing the damage after uncomplete sequences in multiplayers because the damage it is a big random right? Sometime you do 3-4 moves and you lose the 3 lives and other just 4 points of damage (or other value, i don't know it exactly).

We already thought a lot when doing it :D , but OK, I agree it can be improved. All critics and suggestions are welcome.
And now that we have the ghost preview, things are different, the first map with a step to step move isn't required anymore. The goal was to show quickly that moves directions are relative on RS and show basic interactions with board items and autobots at each move.

If we do tuto maps another way, there can't be more than 2 maps for tutorial, because it would be boring. And we also have the solo missions to learn ore about RS. Maybe we could add some easier ones there too.

Ok to skip damages for incomplete sequence in multiplayer mode. But if the sequence is empty the bot will still be destroyed to avoid slowing the game with afk players or connection issues.

I knew you thought a lot when you did it, that's a reason why i never said anything.

Only 2 maps is not enough and we would need 5-8 and I think it wouldn't be boring if each map takes between 30s and 2 min because we are speaking of simple maps.

For example:
- First map: user only can make moves (without blast and laser). 2 marks and no more items. Small map. Movement by movement.
- Second map: user can make 3 moves per turn and turbos are added. 2 marks and no more items. Turbo is something new players don't understand how works (I remember when I started I had no idea and I was completely lost).
- Third map: user can only make moves, blasts and lasers. 2 marks and 2 autobot (1 of energy). He can kills one autobot using blast and other using the laser.

Something like this would be enough, new players would understand how Robostrike works and they wouldn't spend much time.

Hmm...
basically I agree with Yeku.

Casual games usually have very easy first steps. So people will probably be used to it - and not bored.
But we should spice it up with more interesting (maybe even funny) texts.

And (i repeat myself) the chatbox is not the best place for those texts :p

i'm agree with all.
for me, if we decrease number action, we will lost all animation.
Player will always make sequence, it will be really boring.

2 moves, action, 2 move, action, ... i'm not sure that you understand what i said but ^^ i prefer keep 6 actions.

Edit : Oh i have an exemple .... fisrt map in solo mod : we have to give one action each turn : so boooooooooooooooring for me :D but maybe less boring for beginner as Dharoob

In the last days, there have been some new players to RS. I talked to some of them and it seems that the Ghost preview really is a great help for them. They even manage to take part on matches on very hard maps without being frustated. :)

Just I am worried what will happen when they lose that preview.

My idea: Couldn't we provide an option to keep the preview some longer?
I think in a message like this:

Congratulations, you won 20 matches! It seems that you don't need the ghost moves preview anymore, so it will be switched off now.

[  ]  Click here in case you want to keep it for 20 more game for a fee of 40 points.

The costs could raise each time in order to avoid infinte use of the preview.

What do you think about it?
@Chris: Would that need a lot work to implement such an option?

Not straight forward but yes it's doable.
Let's see before what their reaction is when the preview disappear ;)
