Hi people,

I just watched Amloos screenshot of the new scoreboard preview.

Unfortunately I don't think it's a good approach. The tables are far too complex.
Too many numbers that are only of any interest for real professionals or for nerds :p

And the colours to identify the bonusses colide with the colours of the player bots.
Imagine: You played a green robot. When the scoreboard pops up, your eyes will immediately scan it for anything green. But that's not the numbers concerning to your bot -> confusing.

You might think that all those informations make the score system more transparent and understandable. But that's not right.
Reason: Peeple don't see the factors for the bonusses and therefore won't understand them. In the example of Amloos screenshot: How shall Dislocigal understand why his winbonus is 3/3 ?
Why not 1/1 or 2/2 ? It has something to do with the rank, but it does now show what.

Imha that results in much more confusion that the current system with almost no infos.
People now know that they get some points by some complex internal formula, but most of them don't care about the details because that's not part of having fun. It's only some kind of black box. They would only start to care about it when they think they've been treated in an unfair way.
With the suggested new scoreboard, people will take care because they see some numbers (not all). And then they won't fully understand it -> confusion.

So imho the best way would be to gain an idea of what affects the scores but without showing too many details.
And for the nerds of us, we could put all the numbers and stuff into nice hidden tooltip popups.

The focus should be on the finals points. The player are mostly interested in how much they earn or loose, not in the way it's calculated. With the board from the preview, you have to search for this information. It's only one among many others and the other's are even highlighted...

The next thing, I have to citizise is the labeling. Who in hell shall understand the terms playbonus or (much worse) stakepoints?
The concept of the "stakepoints" is very difficult to put across. Though the label does not help to make it clear.

So the conclusion (imho) could only be to use that black box model again.
You could give an idea of the effecting elelemts by symbols and use a tooltip on each symbol to show some more numbers too those who are interested.

I hope I will be able to provide a simple draft later today.

Cheers,
Dharo

I agree. We need a clear final score of the game. Let's put the possibility to the player to click and see the details of the final score (if he want), with the stakepoints, bonuspoints, etc.

New players don't need to know that details but all the old players must see the difference.

Thank you for this feedback. In fact, this wasn't an offcial "preview" of course but simply a test displaying all variables. Beside the score table wich will be simplified (with a hint text for nerds ;) ), those tests ment me also to improve the formula.
The next launch will be based on this calculation :
score = -playing fees (1%xyouscore/nbplayers with a max of 2+nbplayers/2) + Activity points (kills=kills or marks=3*validated/totalmarks) + Winner bonus (=sum of playing fees with a min of 1+nbplayers)

I hope it will be online in the next few days for a new test.

Thank you for the response. I wasn't sure if it's been only a draft or your final design, because I was away those days. And as you know me, I always write far too much when I think there's something going into the wrong direction :D

Glad to hear that you already planned to put the nerd-info :unibrow: into tooltips.

Now I can't await it either...

Hi,
we found a bug in the new score board. The visitors get one point. It looks like they will displayed round about 0.2 seconds in the score board.

Greetings,

And the next thing.

Sometimes in the scores a other name will be displayed. Its only just a bit of time and then the right name display.

And: If we make a pat in a two player race one player win and get points.

I also noticed some problems when the other player quits the game early.

I had one kill, Sobibor none.
It displays me as the winner, but still I would lose points.
Despite leaving the game Sobibor gains points.

Of course I like it, but i know that for the most of the players (or you too :p) the tables are too much complex

Chris, you should change it in which if the loser leaves he would lose points and NEVER win.

Thank you for this first feedback.
The main part of issues you noticed is due to the browser cache of some players who doesn't use the last version of the game. It can be solved by a simple reload of the browser, but I have to find a way to force the reload of the browser when new versions released.... don't know how yet.
