RS recently hit an all time low, it's probably time to inject some novelty in gameplay and do the minimum SEO to bring life to RS again.
So here is the big decision we took for the next development : TEAM GAMES !!!!
(please stop jumping everywhere, it will probably take some few weeks to do :D )

After a first discussion with Dharo, here is the way it will work for the first release, to optimize the fun / work ratio :

Team config :
There will be only 2-Team-modes available at start : 2/2, 3/3, 4/4

Winning conditions
Deathmatch : the winning team is the one with the last survivor
Races : the winning team is the one where each of the marks have been activated by one (or more) member of it

Interface
There will be a Team option icon when creating a multiplayer game.
The game creator will be part of team A, then every player joining the game will be registered to team B, then team A, then B, etc ... The creator will have the abilty for swapping player from a team to another before starting the game, when balanced.

Friendly fire
Nothing special : players should take care of not shooting their teammates ;)

Points
Scores will be calculated with the same system as usual, but every player of the winning team will get a winbonus.

Design
Still to define, but it must be easy to see who is part of what team.

Maps
If needed there will be a list of maps available for multiplayer team games
Maybe there will also be different starting points for the teams on the map (not sure yet) 

Chat
Each team will be able to communicate within its members without the other team to see it
Of course, visitor will only see scrambled discussions.

That's the way it could be in the first (I hope soon) release. A mailing is planned to all old RS players about this new features.
Please don't hesitate to comment this and bring your ideas for next improvements.

I know there is some works to do, so be brave in this task, i trust in you Chris ;)

And be sure that i will lauch again a team when this new mode comes... (i will pray for that hardly).

Hi,

we are now close to a release date for team games testing.

But I would like to know your opinion about a detail : non balanced games.
When there are for instance 2 players versus 3 or 2 versus 2 versus 1, should we allow the game creator to launch a non balanced team game ?
Of course the immediate answer would be "NO", but there are several things to have in mind :
Even if the teams are balanced in terms of number of players, they can be unbalanced in terms of skills and scores.
A player can quit a game during the 3 first turns if he thinks it's not balanced enough without loosing points.
If we don't allow non balanced teams, and for instance none of the 5 joined players don't want to quit, the game will never start ...

I think it wouldn't be friendly to automatically or manually kick out some players to have balanced teams, so if we want only balanced team games, the solution would be a warning to the game creator such as :
Teams are currently not balanced, do you want to start anyway with a non team game ? (OK/CANCEL)
